Dette har jeg vært borte i og skal svare så godt som mulig;
I dag heter øya 
Kura Panagia
(her vil jeg bruke forkortelsen K.P.) på alle dagens kart jeg har, pluss at alle båtfolk jeg har vært med på tur bruker navnet K.P.! Inkludert Pakis fra Ikos Travel, Alonnisos, som jeg regner for en spesialist!

På et kart fra1478 er der 3 øyer og de ligger i en sirkel; Scyathos, Scopelos (Skopelos var tidligere Peparithos) og Peparethos (Alonnisos)!

I 1570 er det mange øyer bl.a.;
Schiati, Scoyulo, Dromo (Alonnisos) og Pelagnisi 
(K. P.).

I 1690 kalles K.P.;
Pelagnsi Alonesus.

1738 K.P. = Pelerise.

1884 Pelagånisos.

Men "The first Greek State, Fiedler, 1840" kaller K.P. Kyra Panaja Pelagnisi.

"A modern port plan of the Northern Sporades, Royal Navy Hydrographic Service, 1947" 
der er K.P. Pelagonisi
og bukten Agios Petros kaller de Kyra-Panagia.

Hva jeg lærte da jeg guidet turer ut til Nasjonalparken og K.P. var;
" KYRA PANAGIA AV MEGISTRI LAVRA, ATHOS.
(Gammelt navn Pelagos)
Grunnleggeren av Megistri Lavra klosteret kjøpte øya K.P. i 983 under en av de mest brilliante bysantinske perioder.
Keiser Nikiforos Focas donerte 70 gullpenger til St. Atanassios, grunnlegeren av klosteret, for å kjøpe K.P. av lokale munker som bodde der."

Navnedagen til K.P. er 
8. september, og da, eller en av dagene i nærheten, er det Panagiri - Navnedags fest!

I dag bor det en munk i klosteret hver sommer, derfor kan vi 
slippe inn! Husk
TEKKELIG ANTREKK,
dekkede skuldre og knær!

Den siste munken forlot klosteret i 1984, og så lå klosteret ubebodd noen år intil "barba" (bestefar) Giorgos og hans kone bodde der noen år. De tok godt vare på klosteret.

Jeg TROR at det var munkene som forandret navnet på øya!

Athos/Det Hellige Fjell/
Agion Oros, den østre finger av halvøya på Halkidiki, 
- der har ikke kvinner og dyr av hunkjønn adgang.
Derfor hadde de "kornkammer" på øyene i nærheten.
På K.P. dyrket de bl.a. korn, oliven, druer (til vin) og hadde geiter og fjærfe.
Munker kom i godt vær for å hente varer til Athos!

and he asked why some people who was on a sailing trip in the Sporades this summer callas Kyra Panagia Pelagos.

What I know is that today the name of the island is 
Kura Panagia
(here I will call it K.P.)
on all maps I have and all captains I have been visiting the island with uses the name K.P.
Including Pakis from Ikos Travel, Alonnisos, and he I count as a guy who knows his homework!
(I do not have charts at home.)

What I learned while I was guiding trips to the National Marine Park and K.P. was that 
KYRA PANAGIA OF MEGISTRI LAVRA, ATHOS.
(Old name Pelagos)
The founder of Megistri Lavra monastery bought K.P. in 983 under one of the most brilliant Byzantine periods.
Emperor Nikiforos Focas donated 70 golden coins to 
St. Atanassios,
the founder of the monastery, in order to buy the island of K.P. from some local monks who 
live there.

The name day of K.P. is on the 8th of September, and then or one of the closes days, there is a big Panagiri - Name days feast.

Today there is one monk living in the monastery for the summer season, so we can visit!
Remember to be DRESS DECENTLY;
cover knees and shoulders!

Before that the last monk left in 1984, and it was uninhabited until "barba" (grandpa) Giorgos and his wife came to lived there for some years.
They took very good care of the monastery.

I THINK that it was the monks who changed the name!

Athos/The holy mountain/Agion Oros, is the most east finger of the Halkidiki peninsular.
No women or female animals are allowed to enter the island.
That is why they have occupied neighboring island.
On K.P. they were growing amongst others; corn, olives, grapes (for wine) and had gouts and poultry.
Monks from Athos came
in good weather to collect 
the food.
