Stafilos 12/4 2006

Fire, do you see the plane up at the left letting go of the water?

Filling in Agnondas!

Tidlig i onsdag formiddag

Early Wednesday
morning came the message that heavy smoke was coming from Velanio. I took my first photo at 13.54 and when I got there, via Agnondas, and stopped from where the top photo is taken, the fire was "doing well"!
The rumors says;
that some Americans was having a BBQ o that an Albanian was cleaning up after the winter and
it couth fire! It was very strong wind and difficult conditions! No personal damages, and I hope the few houses close to the fire was saved!

A big thank you
to the 4 "water-planes" and the 2 helicopters that worked very well.
The wind made it difficult for them. The wind came down in the afternoon and made the working conditions some better. Then they could get water from outside Stafilos but earlier from Agnondas, as my one photo up here!

I will try to send this now, that's why not much of a Greek lesson today!

The Fire (I was told)
was a result of a bonfire and was not the only one on the island Wednesday. The others were small, but some had to have help to stop them. The fire brigade had more than enough to do!
One should be very careful when the wind is as strong as it was Thursday! We were lucky that the damages was not bigger!
I took a trip Thursday afternoon and then 4 big and 1 small fire trucks was parked in the Stafilos area, and up the hill, with full view, another. Lots of people out looking and photographing.
From the road it does not look too bad, but one can see much more from Velanio, - I was told!

Litt gresk-lekse, sorry men feil kan forekomme!
Some Greek words, sorry but it may be some mistakes!
