Here comes a great one from
"The Colossus of Maroussi" by Henry Miller, 1941.

The New Direction Paperbook

"And what is it about Greece that makes you like it so much?" asked some one.
I smiled. "The light and the poverty," I said.
"You're a romantic," said the man.
"Yes," I said, "I'm crazy enough to believe that the happiest man on earth
is the man with the fewest needs.
And I also believe that if you have light,
all ugliness is obliterated.
Since I've come to your country I know that light is holy:
Greece is a holy land to me."

I saved the best one for the last one;

Jeg gjemte den beste til slutt;

"Fabelaktige opplevelser får man i Hellas ,
fabelaktige gode opplevelser

selv i Hellas, men

"Marvelous things happen to one in Greece,
marvelous good things
which can happen to one nowhere else on earth.
Somehow, almost as if He were nodding,
Greece still re
mains under the protection of the Creator.
Men may go about their puny, ineffectual bede
vilment,
even in Greece, but God’s magic
is still at work and,
no matter what the race of men may do or try to do,
Greece is still a sacred precinct
– and my belief is it will remain so until the end of time.”

og her er full tekst, både på gresk og slik at du kan synge med;

Giannis Kotsiras is also one of my favorites,
here comes on of my favorite songs by him,
I think I have put it up here before,
but a good song one can listen to again!
The text is in Greek but also so you can read it
and sing along with Giannis;

όταν το σπίτι θα 'ναι άδειο  (otan to spiti tha ne adio)
όταν παγώνει η αγκαλιά σου  (otan pagoni i aggalia su)

μη δω στα μάτια σου ούτε δάκρυ  (mi do sta matia su ena dakri)
Θα είμαι κάπου εκεί κοντά  (tha me kapu eki konta)

(an su ragizi ti kardia ke an moni theli na s afisi)
(pes tu pos kapios mia fora alithina se ihe agapisi)
(monaxa esy...the same like the (*)

min skytsengels - my guardian angel
ο φύλακας - guard, keeper, watchman, guardian
ο άγγελος - angel, messenger

Lovely lyrics? - and I am romantic!
