Steni Vala, Alonnisos

Still a lovely place,
I have been there every year. Gulliver, that I worked for used to have lunch stops there.
It was very difficult to arrange the transport, some times the boat came, sometimes not!

Today ceveral boats goes there from Skopelos and Patitiri, Alonnisos.
One can take a bus or a taxi from Patitiri.

Unfortunately the lobster is not cheap any more, I had delicious kalamari, perfect done, and tzatziki, of course.

Life on the dig

Issue No. 13405

PRICELESS artefacts, ancient mysteries, adventures, hidden traps, pits teeming with snakes, gunfights and, of course, beautiful ladies. That is how popular culture presents life in archaeology, as typified by characters like Indiana Jones.

But having just returned from a six-week stint on an archaeological research excavation in Crete, I take this opportunity to give our readers an inside view of what such a project really entails; what life is like on the active “coalface” of archaeology.
